Neighborhood Bike Works
Kindness in Focus is conducting a photo contest for Non-Profit agencies. The winner of the contest will recieve $1000 to go towards the Non-Profit of their choice.
I am a volunteer at the Neighborhood Bike Works in Philadelphia [link]. For the past year, I've taken a few photos here and there of some of the staff members, and also documented some of the programs they offer (bike church, youth afterschool program). I submitted one of the photographs to Kindness in Focus and have been selected as one of the finalists. Now, the public will view the images and vote on which one they like the most.
Here is a link to the contest website: Kindness in Focus
and here is the photo I have submitted:
"Neighborhood Bike Works is a youth development organization in West Philadelphia serving neighborhood youth from 8 to 18. Since 1996 they have offered classes on bike repair and bike safety after school, on weekends, and in the summer. By completing a series of classes and
fixing up used bikes donated by the community, students can earn a bike for themselves.
This photograph is of Cat, one of the staff workers at NBW, and a great asset to the program. She works with me on the nights that I volunteer, and I have watched her exhibit great teaching skills and patience with members of the community who come in to work on their bikes. She has taught me nearly everything I know about bicycles, and I admire her greatly."
